Patient Safety

Trust Cone Health to provide a safe and secure environment, so you can focus on healing.

Infection Prevention

HandwashingHand-washing is the most important way to prevent the spread of infection and germs. Your health care workers wash or sanitize their hands often.

Everyone should clean their hands when entering and exiting a patient’s room; don’t be afraid to remind your provider, friends or family members to clean their hands.

Advanced Germ-Fighting Technology

XenexAs an added step to ensure safety, Cone Health uses a unique germ-fighting “robot” that pulses Xenex ultraviolet light to quickly destroy infection-causing viruses, bacteria, mold, fungus and bacterial spores in the patient environment.

If you stay at a Cone Health hospital for more than 24 hours, you’ll benefit from DermaTherapy® linens, such as sheets, pillowcases and patient gowns. This smooth, anti-microbial fabric prevents germ contamination, prevents damage to your skin, and eliminates odors.

Medication Safety

MedicationFeel confident about getting the right medication at the right doses at the right time.

Before giving you medicine during your hospital stay, your Cone Health nurse scans barcodes on both your hospital bracelet and your medication. A computer then detects any errors or changes to your doctor’s orders, and immediately alerts your care team.

Fall Prevention

Falls are more common in unfamiliar or new situations. Your Cone Health care team takes special measures, such as screening all patients’ mobility and making walkers easily accessible, to help prevent falls so you can avoid injury and recover as quickly as possible.

fall riskYou can help prevent falls by:

  • Not getting out of bed or up from a chair alone
  • Standing up slowly
  • Wearing non-skid shoes, slippers or socks
  • Using your walker, cane or wheelchair as recommended
  • Holding onto the handrail in the bathroom and the hallway
  • Telling your nurse if you feel weak or dizzy
