Cultivating a Corporate Wellness Culture

Cultivating a Corporate Wellness Culture

Employers that foster well-being through a strategic and intentional culture of wellness build a strong foundation for organizations and individuals to thrive.

According to Gallup research, only 1 in 4 employees believe their workplace cares about their well-being. However, studies show investing in a wellness culture positively contributes to job performance, satisfaction and retention while reducing physical and mental health risks.

“Successful wellness programs are tailored to meet the needs of your organization,” shares Kelley Kimrey, a Cone Health wellness coordinator who has worked with diverse corporate clients and industries. “By understanding your employees’ health needs and the types of programming they desire, organizations can effectively address wide-ranging issues, including chronic disease management, mental health concerns or workplace culture, while promoting well-being.”

Diagnose overall employee health: Just as a healthcare provider might diagnose a patient before prescribing a treatment plan, organizations can benefit from insights about their employees’ health. Using a health analytics portal, employees can complete health surveys, review biometric screening results and learn about wellness programs to meet their health goals. With data aggregated in a HIPPA-compliant manner, organizations can use engagement surveys, absenteeism data or even employee retention metrics to gauge the health of the workforce and inform the best aligned wellness initiatives.

Gauge employee interest: Once employers have data-driven insights, it is easier to identify and prioritize wellness programming, adds Kimrey. For instance, if diabetes or high blood pressure are concerns for an employee population, eating healthy could be a natural wellness focus. Through an employee survey, organizations can determine when and how to serve up resources to best engage employees.

Consider all aspects of wellness: While many corporate programs focus on physical health offerings, like weight loss, health coaching or screenings, wellness is multi-faceted. Consider support for mental health, financial fitness and work/life balance.

“At Cone Health, employees are encouraged to live life with purpose, connection, energy, stability and success,” offers Kimrey. “Wellness encompasses your entire life – your physical, mental, social, financial, work and community life.”
