Benefits of Offering Workplace Preventative Health Services

The Benefits of Offering Workplace Preventative Health Services

By offering onsite preventative vaccinations and screenings, businesses can help employees proactively identify common yet treatable health issues and improve their well-being, productivity and longevity.

Make influenza and Covid-19 vaccinations convenient: The CDC’s independent advisory group recommends everyone 6 months and older receive the latest flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Hosting onsite clinics and providing information about convenient walk-in vaccination options, like Cone Health community pharmacy locations, protects employees’ health and reduces absenteeism.

Check for a range of health conditions with biometric screenings: Onsite biometric screenings to assess blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and glucose levels encourage employees to routinely monitor their health. While the World Health Organization finds 4 out of 10 people are not aware they have elevated blood pressure, new research from Johns Hopkins University suggests about 10 percent of Americans do not know they have diabetes. By detecting health issues earlier, interventions can be more impactful.

Offer onsite skin cancer screening exams: While skin cancer is the most common cancer, early detection, especially of melanoma and other types, significantly improves outcomes. In partnership with Cone Health, employers in Alamance, Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham Counties can arrange for visual skin cancer screening exams at their place of business.

Benefits of Offering Workplace Preventative Health Services

“Even though skin cancer impacts more people each year than all other cancers combined, routine skin cancer screenings are not top of mind for many people,” shares Christine Brannock, Cone Health oncology outreach manager. “Employers have an opportunity to increase awareness and help employees catch skin cancer early when it is most treatable.”

“Working with employers, we identify a suitable onsite location and schedule skin cancer screening appointments in advance that are conducted by a nurse practitioner from our cancer center,” adds Brannock. “We can bill employee insurance directly and provide dermatology referrals for follow up when needed.”
