Physicals, Testing, and Vaccines
Employee physicals, testing, and vaccines can help keep your team members safe, healthy, and more productive at work and home. Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions offers a variety of physicals, safety testing, and vaccinations.
Pre-Employment Physicals
Pre-employment screenings confirm that job applicants can safely perform their job functions before they go through hiring and training. This can reduce injuries and lower employee turnover.
Pre-employment physicals can also help prevent diseases by detecting high blood sugar, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or other symptoms that could indicate a chronic disease or complications that could develop from a disease. Identifying a chronic health issue in the early stages can lower future health claims and costs.
Annual Job Safety Physicals
Some positions, such as firefighters or police officers, require annual safety physicals. These physicals are tailored to meet the job requirements and health risks for a particular group of workers. Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions currently conducts annual physicals for the City of Greensboro Fire Department, Alamance County Sheriff's Office, and for fire, police, and sheriff departments of other area municipalities.
DOT Physicals
Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions offers DOT physicals from certified providers at three locations in the Triad. Learn more about DOT physicals.
General Wellness Exams
Some companies offer yearly general wellness exams to help identify potential health or safety problems before they become an issue. Not all of your team members will necessarily have a primary care physician or get wellness exams on their own, so these physicals can help ensure all your employees are on a path to wellness.
Return-to-Work Testing
After an employee has an injury, you may need a fit-for-duty test to determine if they are able to return to work, perform their job safely, and avoid reinjury. Our team can provide fit-for-duty testing and advise your company if it is safe for the employee to return to complete duties, or if they may need some type of accommodations in order to return to work.
One tool available to make an objective, measurable determination of an employee’s ability to perform various types of physical exertion is a physical capacity profile.
Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions is the only occupational health clinic in the region to have specialized physical capacity profile equipment that measures how much an employee can lift, pull, push, bend, and reach.
This equipment allows our team to measure these abilities with an objective number that can be matched with the U.S . Department of Labor’s physical capacity requirements: sedentary, light, medium, heavy, and very heavy work.
Respirator Fit Testing
Many jobs require employees to wear a respirator to prevent inhaling toxins of fine dust particles. Respirator fit tests are required for all tight-fitting respirators, including both supplied-air respirators and air-purifying respirators. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires fit testing before first use, if there are changes to use, and as a part of annual evaluations.
Hearing and Vision Screenings
Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common occupational diseases. OSHA requires employers to provide a hearing conservation program when employee noise exposures are equal to or exceed 85 decibels (dB) averaged over eight working hours, or an eight-hour time-weighted average (TWA). Hearing tests, known as audiograms, should be conducted at the time of pre-employment for baseline testing, annually, and when an employee leaves the job. Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions offers audiograms at each of these phases of employment.
For companies or positions that require vision tests, our team also provides vision screening. These screenings can include visual acuity, depth perception and color vision testing.
