Services
The Dr. Miguel and Denese Brito Nutrition & Education Center at MedCenter for Women is designed to improve access to healthy and nutritious food for patients of Center for Women’s Healthcare at MedCenter for Women.
Patients are referred by their physician or their advanced practice provider when a food need is identified during an office visit. That referral serves as a “food prescription,” allowing referred patients to visit the center to receive medically tailored food bags. They’ll also have a customized food shopping experience as well as access to educational resources such as:
- Nutrition and wellness education
- Wellness coaching with a registered dietitian
- Financial health classes (literacy and budgeting)
- Resource counseling, which can provide connections to short- and long-term nutrition assistance programs
We know that prenatal care and ensuring pregnant women have their basic food needs met are the first steps in eliminating the risk of adverse birth outcomes.
This medical food market ensures patients have access to nutritious foods to support a healthy lifestyle as well as the education and resources to maintain it. Learn more at https://britofoodprogram.org/
Food Market Supports New Residents
Sara Adem, new to the area, shopped for boxed cereal, yogurt and fruit as part of the Brito Food Program's effort to provide pregnant women with healthy food and educational resources, including connections to community food resources, to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
