Surviving the NICU Rollercoaster

September is Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Awareness Month.

September 8 is Clark Cummings’ first birthday. His first trip around the sun started far too early, with Clark weighing one pound and two ounces. Tiny newborn with breathing tube

For reference, his dad says: “I could cup him in the palm of my hand.”

Clark’s tiny beginnings included a good dose of fight. Reaching this birthday milestone is yet another on Clark’s long list of accomplishments since before Sept. 8, 2020.

​September is National Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Awareness Month. It is a very appropriate time to celebrate the work critical newborn care providers and volunteers at Cone Health do every day.

For Clark Cummings, the heroic efforts before he drew his first breath and more specifically his first breath are a testimony to the incredible work of the Cone Health Neonatal Intensive Care team.
