Christopher Cornue Joins Cone Health as Chief Strategy Officer
Cornue brings a combination of strategy and execution to the position.
Greensboro – Christopher “Chris” Cornue has joined Cone Health as chief strategy officer. He is responsible for driving strategy and innovation and ensuring Cone Health’s strong future in both the regional and national marketplace. Cornue will focus on growing and positioning Cone Health for long-term success through continuous improvement and strategic collaboration.
With more competition and rapid change in the business and clinical sides of health care, the role of the chief strategy officer has grown in importance. Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle says Cornue brings the right combination of experience to the job, “Strategic plans are the pathways to where an organization wants to go. However, it is vital that an organization understands how and why to follow that path. Chris has the experience to successfully pair strategy with execution.”
Cornue recently served as an executive vice president at The Health Management Academy where he led the Center of Innovation. He also previously worked as an executive leader at Sg2 where he led the consulting practice as well as the “Center for the Future.” In both roles, he worked as a trusted advisor with health systems nationally and globally to drive strategy, innovation, disruption and global health.
Cornue’s extensive health care and leadership background includes serving as CEO of Banner Health’s McKee Medical Center and stops at Atrium Health Navicent, Sinai Health System, University of Chicago Medicine and the University HealthSystem Consortium.
Cornue sees his role as taking a broader, deeper view when it comes to planning and execution. “Health systems need to understand the importance of leveraging new insights, ensuring all stakeholders have a voice, and seeking valuable strategic partnerships that allow them to more effectively address their missions and their strategic direction.”
Cornue earned his Master of Science in Health Services Administration degree from Gannon University. He serves as an expert and mentor with the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and is a fellow (FACHE) of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
