Advanced Skin Cancer Treatment Offered by Cone Health
A proven way of treating high-risk skin cancer is part of several changes at Cone Health Dermatology.
Greensboro – Cone Health Dermatology has expanded its services with the addition of a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon and board-certified dermatologist at its newly renovated office at 719 Green Valley Road. This expansion enables the practice to offer Mohs surgery—a highly effective procedure with a 99% success rate for treating basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, two of the most common types of skin cancer. With the new provider on board, patients can now schedule appointments for this specialized surgery significantly faster than the typical wait times at other regional facilities, which can extend for months.

Mohs surgery is a precise and advanced technique for treating skin cancer, especially on areas like the face, arms, and legs. The procedure involves removing cancerous tissue layer by layer, each examined under a microscope to ensure complete cancer removal while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. This method not only lowers the risk of recurrence but also minimizes scarring.
“This is a very detailed procedure, involving tracking microscopic cancer cells to ensure complete removal of the tumor,” explains Dr. Karina Paci, MBA, of Cone Health Dermatology. “The length of stay for patients can be anywhere from a couple of hours to most of a workday, as it can take several passes to clear the tumor and subsequently reconstruct the wound.”
Dr. Paci is the newest member of Cone Health Dermatology. She is a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon specializing in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology. Dr. Paci completed her fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
