Cone Health Doubles Down on Value-Based Care
The move emphasizes wellness and cost control across Cone Health.
Greensboro –The Cone Health Center for Value-Based Care has been established to expand the benefits of value-based care throughout the organization. Three leaders have been hired to lead the center.
Dr. Angelo Sinopoli
Traditionally, hospitals and doctors are paid for seeing patients, ordering tests and other health care tasks. In value-based care, providers are paid based on the results of their care and the quality of services to their patients. The aim is to focus on what individuals value most and improve the patient experience. Value-based care can also reduce costs and unnecessary services.
“Our value-based care work has resulted in better health care, lower costs and happier consumers,” says Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle. “HealthTeam Advantage is a 5-star Medicare Advantage program that customers love. Triad HealthCare Network consistently scores among the top organizations in the nation for quality of care and lower costs. It is time to bring all the lessons we’ve learned over the years to all of Cone Health.”
Danielle Phelps Swartz
Dr. Angelo Sinopoli will lead that effort. He has been hired as executive vice president of value-based care. He will build on Cone Health’s reputation as a national leader in value-based care by ensuring it is integrated throughout Cone Health.
Sinopoli recently served as the chief network officer for Upstream. The organization brings a value-based care model to physician practices. Sinopoli’s background includes expertise in Medicare shared savings programs and population health efforts.
Danielle Phelps Swartz, MHA, BSN, has been hired as vice president of population health. Her work will ensure the various strategies and initiatives of the Center for Value-Based Care are implemented and working as planned.
Dr. William Curran
Phelps Swartz also comes to Cone Health from Upstream, where she was chief nursing officer and senior vice president of care management. Her background includes improving the health of and lowering costs for Medicare populations. She has extensive experience in improving quality.
Dr. William Curran is the chief medical officer of value-based care. In this role, his insight into how medical practices and physicians operate will be used in advancing the center’s goals.
Currin directed operations and focused on growth during his time as regional market president of Upstream. He also has extensive experience in value-based care and quality.
