When Twins Help a Twin Deliver Twins

A second set of two is never too much at Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center.

Angelia Tutt wanted a big family. After all, she comes from a family of 8. Angelia is a twin. And she and her sister weren’t the only twins in the house. Her mother had two sets of twins.

Angelia and Kendrick

Six years ago, it was time for Angelia to start her family. She had a girl. Then last year twin boys. Then a few weeks ago, she came to Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center at Moses Cone Hospital expecting to deliver a daughter. “I was having dreams about having another girl,” says Angelia. Instead, she delivered a boy. Then another.

I Was Shocked

“Everyone started asking me, ‘Do you know you are having twins?’ I was shocked,” admits Angelia. After processing that this mom, who is a twin, is about to deliver her second set of twins, the universe doubled down on the idea of twins. Suddenly, the delivery room was full of them.

Me Too

The odds are that around 3% of the population is a twin. But sometimes the odds get tossed aside. One of the delivery nurses told Angelia that she was a twin. Then Dr. Victor Cresenzo spoke up, saying that he too, was a twin. The respiratory therapist was a twin and had twins herself. Suddenly, twins were everywhere. “I never knew there were so many twins,” a stunned Angelia recalls. Cresenzo says he was never in one room with so many twins in his life. “Twins outnumbered all of the other people,” he added.

You Will Always Have a Friend

Two days later (of course) Angelia and husband, Elliott McNeil, were saying “bye” to tiny Kendrick and Kairo. They were heading home but their little ones would stay a little longer in the hospital. Elliott knew Angelia wanted a big family—just not so quickly. “I wasn’t expecting twin boys and now I have four,” says a beaming father holding his twin son like someone who has had some experience with it. “Every day is fun. I always learn something new.”

Angelia and Elliott can’t help but think about the future for these latest additions to their family. Twins will always be true to each other,” says a knowing Angelia. “They will stay close. And they will always be each other’s best friend.” And they might be sharing that experience with more people than they know.
