Cardiac Sonographer

My name is Shanika, and I’ve been a cardiac sonographer at Cone Health for a year. When I first learned that ultrasound technology could be used for more than just monitoring pregnancies, my curiosity was piqued. I saw my mom getting an ultrasound scan for a reason unrelated to pregnancy; I had always associated ultrasound with babies, but in that moment, I realized the potential of this technology for so much more. This experience sparked a deeper interest in exploring how ultrasound could be used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, especially in cardiology.

At Cone Health, my role is to help diagnose heart diseases using ultrasound technology. Being a part of the team here allows me to contribute to the fight against heart disease, which is incredibly rewarding. I’m passionate about my work because I know it plays a critical role in helping doctors make informed decisions about treatment. Every day, I’m driven by the purpose of providing the best care possible to my patients, ensuring that nothing is missed during a scan.

What makes Cone Health special to me is the strong sense of community within the work environment. There’s a shared goal of helping others that makes our work more meaningful. I want to ensure that I’m thorough and accurate in every scan I perform, knowing that the information I provide could be vital to someone’s care. The supportive culture here motivates me to do my best, ensuring that every patient gets the help they need.
