Jazma Phelps, DO
Class of 2018
What are you up to now?
I am currently working in academic medicine as a core faculty member for a family medicine residency program in southern California. I practice full-scope family medicine, from OB to inpatient. I also serve as the Director of Women’s Health.
What did you like about our residency program?
During my time at Cone, I enjoyed having a well-rounded education that prepared me for life after residency. Looking back on it, I appreciate the daily didactics, community hospital, and unopposed residency. Cone Health was truly a family and looked out for each other. You also can’t beat the feeling of being close to home and serving the community in which you grew up.
In what ways did our program prepare you for life after residency?
After residency, I felt comfortable with full-scope family medicine. I feel like that aspect of FM is going away, but Cone Health FMRP offered me that - from being ready to do the procedures a FM doctor, to having worked with all the sub-specialties and learning management plans, to even dealing with complex patients during full clinics. I was given the tools to be successful and I am grateful for that.
