Pediatric Teaching Program: Conferences and Grand Rounds

Pediatric noon conferences are provided by the Pediatric Teaching Program faculty and area pediatric subspecialists. These daily lunch time conferences cover various general pediatric topics. Residents on all pediatric rotations are encouraged to attend.

Primary Care Residency residents also participate in once monthly support seminars. After lunch with peers, residents learn in-depth knowledge and skills related to primary care in a small group setting with faculty. Residents get exposure to the simulation lab during this time.

Additional curricular experiences: Our Primary Care Track residents will be supported by relevant curriculum outside of their clinical work including monthly seminars, a journal club concentrated on evidence based medicine and cost effective strategies for primary care pediatrics, and quality improvement initiatives focused on the medical home. Each resident will complete a quality improvement project and an advocacy project, on an area of interest.

Grand Rounds are held every Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., except for the fourth Wednesday of each month. Presentations address a wide variety of topics relevant to pediatrics. Speakers include local faculty; faculty from Duke, UNC and Wake Forest; and others involved in programs that affect children. Grand Rounds sessions are currently held virtually, with plans to resume in-person meetings again in the future. Attendance is mandatory for all residents on rotation with us.
