Curriculum
Graduate medical education is based on the principle of progressively increasing levels of responsibility in caring for patients, under the supervision of the faculty. Faculty members closely monitor the progress of each resident in acquiring the skills necessary for advancement to the next level of training. Residents will be provided an excellent learning experience in multiple areas of interest.
- During the first year, residents will be exposed to inpatient adult psychiatry, consultative and emergency medicine, family practice, internal medicine and neurology to further sharpen their skills. In the second, third and fourth years the program will include a focus in outpatient, community clinics, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric, addiction and forensics; with a focus on integrating behavioral health and primary care using the collaborative care model. For continuity of care, each resident will be assigned to either the Guilford County Crisis Care Center or the Greensboro Outpatient Clinic during the 3rd year. For additional experience and exposure, residents can pursue and additional ½ day in our other outpatient clinics during year 3 and 4.
- Cone Health has a group of comprehensive community mental health outpatient clinics in Greensboro, Reidsville, Kernersville and our new Guilford County Crisis Care Center. The Crisis Care Center is a collaboration between Guilford County and Cone Health that treats chronic and persistently mentally ill patients; offering 24 hour crisis management, behavioral health urgent care with integrated primary care and behavioral health services, peer living room, inpatient services for adults and children, and a full range of outpatient services including community partners.
- An injection clinic is provided at the Crisis Care Center and the Greensboro outpatient clinic, both Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC).
