Residency of Progressive Care Nursing

When you join Cone Health’s Residency of Progressive Care Nursing, you will begin your career caring for patients who face a high risk of needing more intensive care. You will continue your education and gain hands-on clinical experience that prepares you to work in a wide-range of departments and settings.

Learn how to monitor patients and recognize signs of instability, and build competency in the full spectrum of technologies and therapies used in modern progressive care settings.

What To Expect

As a new graduate registered nurse in the Residency of Progressive Care Nursing, you will participate in:

  • 14 week orientation in progressive care nursing, which will include about 24 hours on your department with your preceptor and 12 hours of specialty classes focusing on specialty specific education.
  • Opportunities for continuing education hours
  • An advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) course and certification
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) certification
  • Medical and Surgical simulation scenarios in our patient simulation lab
  • Opportunity to shadow experienced nurses in procedural areas related to progressive care nursing
  • Hire to one of the progressive care departments at Alamance Regional Medical Center, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital or Wesley Long Hospital. Some of the Progressive care units include:
    • Cardiac Interventional/Surgical
    • Pulmonary
    • Medical/Neuro
    • Surgical/Neuro/Trauma
    • Medical/Cardiac
    • Medical/ Covid-19

After Orientation

After completing the 14-week orientation in the Residency of Progressive Care Nursing, the professional development classes will start. You will continue your learning with paid monthly workshops and time away from the hospital engaging in fun and rejuvenating activities with fellow RN Residents and a mentor leader.
