Message from the Director
We are delighted that you are interested in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center (ARMC). Our ASHP accredited postgraduate program offers an exceptional residency experience that gives residents the opportunity to further strengthen their knowledge and skills in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients. The program is designed to develop leadership skills, clinical expertise, communication, and project management skills under the mentorship of dedicated preceptors.
Residency training at ARMC includes unique, well-rounded practice experiences in inpatient acute care and at affiliated ambulatory care sites throughout our community. Residents in this program will be integrated into our interdisciplinary patient care teams, engage in teaching and precepting experiences, and conduct IRB-approved research with the goal to improve pharmaceutical care within our institution.
Our preceptors are committed to developing strong foundations of lifelong learning and teaching in our residents. We pride ourselves on providing a supportive environment and the tools necessary for residents to achieve their professional long-term goals. The community atmosphere and focus on collaboration, teamwork, and optimizing patient care throughout our hospital creates the ideal learning environment for residents.
We hope you will continue to explore the PGY1 Residency Program at ARMC.

Program Overview and Rotations
Program Overview
The Alamance Regional Medical Center PGY1 residency program is designed to develop community-based pharmacist leaders with the ability to provide patient-centered pharmaceutical care as an integral member of the health care team. The program provides residents with opportunities to improve medication therapy and work collaboratively with health care providers in the acute inpatient and various ambulatory care settings.
Residents are required to complete a research project, participate in medication use evaluations, and present an ACPE-accredited CE program to healthcare professionals in our hospital system. Residents will gain precepting experience by co-precepting students from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy and High Point University Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy.
Residents staff every other weekend during the orientation period and then transition to every third weekend and one weekday evening shift. Residents are expected to cover one winter holiday (Christmas or Thanksgiving) and one minor holiday shift (Memorial Day or Labor Day) during their residency year.
Upon completion of the program, residents will have the skills necessary to practice as independent and confident clinicians in multiple patient care settings. As a member of the Cone Health System, our PGY1 residents are able to enter the early commitment process for PGY2 Resident positions within Cone Health.
