What Laser Treatments Can Do For You

Smiling Woman

Ever wish you had a magic wand that could transform your face? If so, cosmetic laser treatments may be your next-best option. Laser treatments can:

  • Diminishing visible fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improving overall skin tone and texture
  • Reducing the appearance of acne, scars and spider veins
  • Removing unwanted hair
  • Stimulating collagen growth for facial rejuvenation
  • Treating pigmentation, redness, rosacea and acne

A cosmetic laser treatment can significantly rejuvenate your skin but won’t immediately erase years of damage. You may need more than one treatment to achieve your goals. Ask your doctor to help you understand what's possible from the start.

Which Laser Treatment is Best for You?

Different treatments may give better results for certain concerns. Schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon for a skin evaluation and discussion of your treatment goals. This will help your specialist recommend the cosmetic laser treatment best suited to your needs and expectations.

Before committing to laser treatment—or any cosmetic service—ask questions so you feel comfortable with the procedure and ensure it's the best path. Most adults in good health are candidates for laser treatments. Your surgeon may caution against treatments or suggest other options if you have certain health conditions.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure to enhance your face’s appearance. Your plastic surgeon will use a gentle laser beam device to vaporize damaged and aged skin cells on the surface of your face. This process promotes the growth of new skin cells and collagen production. You’ll see a smoother, firmer complexion as your skin heals and rejuvenates.

Our surgeons and physician assistants perform laser procedures at both Greensboro offices.

Preparation

Before a laser procedure, you may start skin treatment tailored to your skin type to prepare you for laser resurfacing. Your surgeon will tell you more about your preparation during your consultation.

Recovery Time

Laser skin treatment is usually well tolerated with little discomfort. Your recovery time will vary depending on the strength of the laser settings and your goals. Generally, patients recover by the next day. When the plastic surgeon uses the stronger laser settings, your downtime can be up to five days.

Sunblock and quality skin care products are essential after laser treatment to protect the investment in your skin.

MicroPeel

Get a brighter, more even and youthful complexion without surgery. MicroPeels and NanoPeels are known as the “weekend peels” because of their quick, effective results and short recovery.

During a MicroPeel, your surgeon uses a laser to remove your skin's dead, dry top layer. It’s like “peeling” away old skin and giving it a new start. The treatment also stimulates collagen production, giving your skin a renewed, healthy glow.

What Does a MicroPeel Treat?

This light resurfacing treatment reduces imperfections on the skin’s surface and improves the appearance of aging. It can help with:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Mild wrinkles
  • Pigment irregularities
  • Scars, including acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone and texture

Talk to your surgeon about how many treatments you need to reach your goals.

What to Expect

Before treatment, you’ll get topical numbing cream applied to the treatment area. You will wear eye protection for the procedure. Usually, treatment takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete.

After-Treatment Care

You may experience swelling and mild redness similar to a sunburn after treatment. You may also notice dry-looking skin that will peel away in the coming days. Your skin will be sensitive, so avoid direct sun exposure until your skin heals.

You’ll most likely see noticeable results in three to five days. Your total recovery time could range from one to seven days.

NanoPeel

Consider a NanoPeel for customized, gentler facial rejuvenation without a chemical peel or dermabrasion. It’s the perfect treatment to start renewing your skin. NanoPeel is known for its quick, precise treatment with little downtime. If you come in for treatment on a Friday, you can most likely return to work on Monday with signs of rejuvenated skin.

A NanoPeel laser beam gently exfoliates a thin layer (a much thinner layer than a MicroPeel) of damaged skin. Removing dull, aged skin causes your skin to grow new skin cells. You’ll notice healthier-looking skin with better texture and tone. We can tailor treatments to your skin condition and the desired outcome.

What Does a NanoPeel Treat?

If you’re looking for mild to moderate improvements to your skin’s appearance, a NanoPeel can take care of:

  • Acne scarring
  • Aging skin and dark spots
  • Dullness
  • Fine lines and mild wrinkles

It’s a gentle experience with powerful results—from dull to bright in just one treatment. A few days after a NanoPeel, damaged and dead skin cells will shed naturally, uncovering radiant skin.

What to Expect

Before treatment, we’ll clean your skin and give you protective eyewear. Most people can tolerate this procedure without numbing cream.

Your surgeon will guide the laser beam over the treatment area. The entire treatment takes about 20 minutes to complete.

After-Treatment Care

You may experience skin redness and mild swelling after treatment. You’ll probably notice dry skin that will peel away in the next day or two.

You’ll notice gradual improvements in your tone, texture, evenness and color. It’s important to avoid direct sun exposure while your skin heals.

Laser Hair Removal

Whether you’re a man or a woman, shaving, waxing or plucking hair is usually an unwanted chore. Laser hair removal can help get rid of unwanted body hair in areas like the face, legs, chin, chest, back, underarms and bikini area.

How Does It Work?

The laser hair removal process happens when your hair absorbs the laser’s heat, which travels down the hair shaft to destroy the hair follicle. That means the hair stops growing. A single treatment will remove actively growing hair but not permanently stop all hair growth.

Within a few months, you’ll probably see some hair regrowth. You’ll need more than one treatment to get long-lasting hair removal.

Some complexions and hair types have better results with laser hair removal. Ask your surgeon about the best method for your skin.

What to Expect

We’ll do our best to make you comfortable during your treatment. Your surgeon or physician assistant will target and remove hair with an FDA-approved and Candela Nordlys safe laser. You may feel a slight burning or stinging for a short time during the procedure.

The time it takes to complete your laser treatment will depend on how much hair you’re treating. Small areas take less time, and larger areas, like your back, could take up to an hour. If you have a tattoo, you won’t get laser treatment directly over the tattoo.

After Treatment

After laser hair removal, you could see mild swelling, skin color changes, irritation, and slight skin redness in areas treated for a day or two. You’ll be able to return to your normal activities right away.
