The clinic is open from 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Symptom Management Clinic

Our goal is provide our cancer patients with quick and convenient care when they have symptoms related to cancer, a blood disorder or your treatment, and help you avoid a trip to the Emergency Department. 

The Clinic

Symptom Management Clinics are located at our Cancer Center locations at Wesley Long Hospital and Alamance Regional clinic. At the clinic, you will be evaluated by a provider typically on the same day you call. Our symptom management advanced practice providers have years of experience in oncology, hematology, emergency care and intensive care.

Our providers will talk with you about your symptoms and concerns, schedule any lab work or tests, provide care and collaborate with your oncologist. 

Why use this clinic?

We are experts in your care. We can provide you with same-day appointments, close follow-up, and help you avoid the Emergency Department in most cases. Using the clinic also saves you time and money. 

When to contact Symptom Management Clinic 

Here are some common symptoms to call us about—as soon as you experience them and before they become serious:

  • Fever over 100.4 degrees
  • Chills that occur soon after you get chemotherapy
  • Shortness of breath that is new to you
  • Bleeding of the nose, blood in urine or stool
  • Mouth sores that make it hard to eat or drink
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Swelling of the arms or legs
  • Redness or pain where you have an IV or at your port site
  • Rash on the skin that is new
  • Increase in pain, or new pain
  • Going to the bathroom more often
  • Extreme fatigue or weakness
  • Extreme thirst
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness in the arms or legs
  • Double vision, headache
  • Pneumonia

True emergencies such as active chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe shortness of breath, etc., should continue to be evaluated in the Emergency Department.
