Our History

The LeBauer-Brodie Center for Cardiovascular Research and Education has provided access to patients for leading edge clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine for more than thirty years. Founded as the LeBauer Cardiovascular Research Foundation in 1991 by Drs. Bruce Brodie and Tom Stuckey, and Denise Muncy, RN, as a private not for profit foundation partnered with Cone Health, our founders believed that access to new treatments could be significantly enhanced by contributing to scientific advancements. Since its inception, the foundation has been internationally recognized for its pioneering work focused on the treatment of heart attack.

Our foundation has been dedicated to promoting excellence in clinical investigation in an environment where our patients’ welfare is our top priority.  In 2016, Cone Health and the foundation merged to form the LeBauer-Brodie Center for Cardiovascular Research and Education at Cone Health. We conduct leading edge research protocols to provide our patients the latest technology, treatments, and care strategies; in addition, our health system staff and care providers–and therefore our patients—benefit from opportunities for professional growth and education.

The Center has conducted more than 500 clinical trials, and has been at the forefront in the development of stents, defibrillators, cardiovascular drugs, vascular and cardiac surgery, rhythm disturbances, heart failure, and cardiovascular prevention. Our investigators speak at national meetings and have served in leadership capacities for national clinical trials. Advancing the care of our patients through innovation is at the forefront of everything we do.
