Cancer Rehabilitation

Cancer Rehabilitation

Live better before, during and after cancer treatment with specialized rehabilitation services at Cone Health. You’ll benefit from a team of professionals dedicated to helping you maintain or restore function, manage symptoms and side effects, and improve your overall quality of life.

How Does Rehabilitation Help?

Count on our rehabilitation professionals to work closely with the rest of your Cone Health cancer care team to create a customized plan for you. Ask about how we can help with common side effects of cancer treatments, such as

  • Tightness in your joints, skin, muscles or connective tissues
  • Decreased strength, balance or coordination
  • Fatigue or limited endurance
  • Lymphedema (swelling)
  • Pain
  • Pelvic pain or incontinence
  • Speech and swallowing difficulties
  • Dizziness
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Mood and sleep issues, which can be helped by exercise
  • Numbness in the hands or feet

Cancer Rehabilitation Specialists

Trust our physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists for high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitation care.

Get Ready for Treatment with ‘Prehab’

Meet with your cancer rehabilitation team early to set goals and plan for a successful recovery. Depending on your condition, your therapist may recommend simple exercises to build strength and endurance before chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. That’s because “prehab” or “prehabilitation”—rehabilitation before treatment—may help you recover more quickly.

CARE at Alamance Regional Lifestyle Center

At Alamance Regional Medical Center’s LifeStyle Center, join other cancer survivors for Cancer Associated Rehabilitation and Exercise (CARE). You’ll meet twice a week for about six months for a program that incorporates massage therapy, nutrition counseling and peer emotional support along with supervised exercise.
