Travel Vaccines and Services
If you have employees who travel internationally, keeping them healthy during trips is a top priority. After all, no one wants a team member to have to see a doctor overseas, be stuck in a hotel room feeling awful, or interrupt a trip to return home.
Effective planning for international travel requires an understanding of what is needed to stay healthy in each destination your employees may visit. Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions offers complete travel medicine services that follow CDC guidelines for each specific destination.
Vaccines
In many countries, vaccine-preventable diseases are still common even though they have been eradicated from North America. Cone Health travel medicine specialists can advise employees which vaccines they will need based on their destination and provide those vaccines. It’s best to receive vaccines at least two to four weeks before your travel.
Approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Site
Cone Health Employer Health & Wellness Solutions is one of three North Carolina locations selected to provide yellow fever vaccines during the current supply disruption.
Traveler’s Diarrhea Prevention
Most traveler’s diarrhea is caused by bacteria in contaminated food or water. Our staff can let employees know if they need to drink only bottled water, avoid consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, or take other precautions in the areas they will be visiting.
We also offer guidance and prescriptions for medicines that can prevent or treat traveler’s diarrhea. Our staff follows the most current CDC guidelines for the treatment of traveler’s diarrhea, taking into account the severity of the symptoms and the current health of the patient.
Malaria Prevention
If your team members are traveling to a country where malaria is a concern, they will need to take the correct anti-malarial medication for that region. Our specialists can match the right anti-malarial with the malaria strain that is present where employees will be traveling.
Other diseases carried by mosquitoes, including Dengue Fever and the Zika virus, can only be prevented through the prevention of mosquito bites. Travelers to areas with a risk of these diseases are advised to:
- use mosquito repellant
- treat clothing with permethrin
- wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants
- ensure screens in windows and doors are in good shape
- consider using mosquito netting at night
Individualized Travel Counseling
When employees make a travel medicine appointment, our travel specialists will review the employee’s medical history, any mandatory and/or recommended vaccines, and current travel alerts for the countries where your employee will travel. We help employees know how to manage any chronic conditions or allergies during their trip, give tips for packing routine medications, and offer other patient-specific guidance needed.
